The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, has said huge investment in agriculture by the government would not only help in the provision of jobs, but ensure food sufficiency.
Alake stated this, on Wednesday, when he spoke at a press conference to herald the 2017 edition of Lisabi Festival, held at the Alake’s Palace, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The monarch, who noted that the theme of this year’s edition of the festival: “Self Reliance on Agriculture for a Secured Future”, would serve as a wake-up call to Nigerians on the essence of agriculture, declared agriculture remained the surest way for Nigeria out of the current economic recession.
Oba Gbadebo added that apart from ensuring food sufficiency and job creation, agriculture would go a long way in bridging the foreign exchange deficit, which has weakened the country’s currency.
He, however, said the 31st edition of Lisabi Festival would focus more on exploring various opportunities in agriculture, with a view of stimulating interest of the people, especially the youth in agriculture.
Alake, then, commended Globacom for identifying with, and supporting the festival stressing such support would help in preserving culture and promoting tourism.
In his remark, the National Commercial Coordinator of the telecom company, Mr. Yomi Ogunbamowo, said the annual Lisabi Festival has become a veritable platform to brainstorm on how to further develop Egbaland.
Ogunbamowo, however, reiterated Globacom’s commitment to the promotion of values, courage, hard work, patriotism and love which the legendary Lisabi symbolized.
The festival has been slated to commence with booming of guns on the Olumo Rock, on Monday, February 27 and close on with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, on Sunday, March 5, 2017.
