Man City’s Sagna expecting ‘tough’ return match against Monaco

Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna says that Radamel Falcao’s penalty miss was the key moment in their dramatic comeback win over Monaco on Tuesday.
Falcao had the chance to give Monaco a 3-1 lead in their Champions League round-of-16 first leg game in Manchester but his second-half spot-kick was saved by Willy Caballero.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United striker later produced a glorious finish to put the visitors 3-2 in front but City hit back to win a pulsating match 5-3.
City full-back Sagna, 34, was grateful that Falcao was not successful with his 50th-minute penalty.
“I think the penalty helped a lot,” he told BeIN Sports. “It’s a turning point of the match — it gave us a boost again and I think it was a blow to them too.”
Soon after Falcao’s miss, Sergio Aguero levelled for City following a goalkeeping error from Danijel Subasic.
Although Falcao responded with his second goal of the game, further strikes from Aguero, John Stones and Leroy Sane led Pep Guardiola’s side to victory.
“It wasn’t easy and it might not be easy in the return match either,” Sagna added. “We knew that we were going to play against a very, very good team. There’s a good reason they’re top of Ligue 1.
“We knew they would be quick on the counter and we knew they already had a lot of good qualities.
“We shouldn’t forget they made things difficult for us … now we’ll have to manage the return match well because we know it will be tough.”
Sagna said that City have a “slight advantage” after earning a two-goal cushion ahead of the second leg but Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva does not feel his side are out of the tie yet.
The 22-year-old Portugal international was disappointed that his team had conceded two goals from corners in the second half but he is hoping Monaco can turn things around when the two sides meet again in the principality on March 15.
“I think that we played well for the first 60 minutes,” Silva told BeIN Sports. “After that, we didn’t have the ability to hold on to our advantage unfortunately.
“We know as well that we played against a great team. It’s not easy to play against Manchester City, who have a lot of good players.
“Now for the match at home, we’ll have to see. It’s possible. We’ll have to score goals and not concede any. We’ll see.”
