The public has been assured that the National Sports Festival which has suffered many postponements in recent years would surely hold in 2017.
The Minister of Youth & Sports Development Solomon Dalung gave the assurance in Makurdi, the Benue State capital over the weekend, during a Youth Dialogue engagement programe by the minister with young people from across the length and breadth of the state, which is part of his two-day working visit to the state.
Also, Dalung buttressed his optimism with a revelation that adequate budgetary provision for organising the youth festival has been included in the 2017 annual budget and pointed out that the National Council on Sports would soon be conveyed to decide on a new date and venue. During the dialogue, Dalung decried societal deep-seated neglect of youths, particularly, the lack of political will to involve them in governance and key sectors of the economy, as he called for deliberate efforts to yield space to them, if truly they are the leaders of tomorrow. He therefore, challenged state governors to channel a quarter of their national security votes to youth and sports development, as panacea for the frightening youth unemployment confronting our nation today and it’s security implication to the desired peace and well-being of the nation.
