Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has approved the rehabilitation of the Magaji Dan Yamusa National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp in the state which facilities are fast deteriorating.
The governor who announced this at the camp said the gesture was in line with the state government plan to upgrade the camp facilities, adding that apart from rehabilitation of the structures, work would be done to improve water supply, electricity and bedding’s among others.
Represented by his deputy, Silas Agara, Governor Al-Makura said he had already directed the state engineers to compile the cost implication of turning the orientation camp into a decent one with state-of-the-art facilities to his office for released of funds, adding that rehabilitation work at the camp would commence next week.
He assured that the camp will wear a new looks before the commencement of next orientation activities and charged the corps members to shun social vices such as drug abuse, theft and fraud that will damage their future.
Speaking earlier, Nasarawa State coordinator of the scheme (NYSC), Mrs. Zainab Isah, lamented the obsolete and dilapidated facilities at the permanent Orientation Camp and called for the state government’s intervention.
According to Mrs. Isa: “It is worthy of note to mention that the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC permanent orientation camp used to be the best camp in the federation, but since its inauguration about 15 years ago, there has not been any renovation work on it.
“The Camp has become a shadow of itself as the facilities are fast decaying, to this end; I wish to humbly request the governor to come to our aid so that the camp can regain its glory,” he said.
The coordinator also requested the provision of a Hilux van to enable her office carry out routine inspection of corps members across the state, adding that there is need to constantly inspect the corps members to ascertain their welfare and health conditions.
