Chelsea have been forced to take a back seat in the pursuit of their transfer prime target Romelu Lukaku. This follows from a confirmation by Man United that they have agreed a fee with Everton for the transfer of the Begian.
Man United and Everton made an agreement to the tune of £75m up-front plus £15m of add-ons for Lukaku to switch Goodison Park for Old Trafford. The deal is a win win for Everton as it also includes Wayne Rooney moving to the opposite direction to his boyhood Club.
There was a twist in the media on Friday night over the player’s transfer as Chelsea, who have trailed Lukaku for a transfer all summer, also tabled a bid for him. That has come a little too late for the Premier League Champions – they have failed to match their desire with action.’
The report by Skysports claims the agreement made between Man United and Everton was subject to personal terms and medical. He will reportedly have a medical with United in LA later today, with a reunion between him and former manager Jose Mourinho now feasible.
United are currently without an out-and-out striker since Zlatan Ibrahimovic was released. Ending last season as the second top scorer in the Premier League, Lukaku will lead the Red Devil’s attack and he will be expected to replicate the same form.
Chelsea will have no choice than to look for a striker elsewhere.
