Xiong Lili, the director of the Department of International Politics at the Beijing-based University of International Business and Economics, spoke with CGTN about the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Bonn.
In his interview with CGTN, Xiong said the meeting offers an opportunity for foreign ministers to learn more about the new Trump administration, to make preparations for the G20 Summit later this year, and to address the conflict in Syria.
Xiong added that ongoing Syrian peace talks in Astana will help concerned parties find common interests and build a foundation for next week's Geneva talks. However, Xiong said there are still a number of fundamental problems that need to be resolved, including Bashar al-Assad's future and the reorganization of the Syrian government.
Xiong said it will take more than just two or three rounds of talks before a final solution can be found.
