Chinese smartphone producer Xiaomi has achieved another milestone in its globalization process by initiating production at its Indonesian plant, aimed at complying with Indonesia's local content adoption obligations.
The unveiling of Xiaomi's Indonesian production line was declared in an event themed "We are made in Indonesia" last Friday, attended by the firm's executives, senior government officials and Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xie Feng.
Addressing the event, Xiaomi Senior Vice President Wang Xiang said establishing the production of the company's smartphones in Indonesia is proof of the importance of the Indonesian market to Xiaomi. Wang took the job after Hugo Barra, a Brazilian IT entrepreneur left the post for Facebook's VR section in January 2017."We see huge potential for growth in Indonesia. It would be an honor for us to take part during this period that would encourage Indonesia in entering a new phase in the smartphone industry," he said.
Xiaomi initially entered the Indonesian smartphone market in 2014 with the Redmi 1S model. It consequently launched more advanced models at affordable prices to tap the lucrative smartphone market in Indonesia.Operating its production facility located in Indonesia's Batam industrial zone, Xiaomi embraces local partners that comprise of Erajaya Swasembada, Sat Nusapersaada and TSM Technologies.
