Aremu petitions police, others over alleged death threat

Prominent unionist and National Executive Council (NEC) member of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu, yesterday alleged threat to his life by an unknown person.
He, therefore, appealed for a quick intervention from the police and other security agencies.
Aremu, who is also chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of First Guarantee Pension Limited (FGPL), said in a statement that he had formally written to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, about the repeated calls from an anonymous individual, threatening to assassinate him for an undisclosed reason. He clarified: “The person called me at about 1.30 p.m. on Thursday, 2nd February 2017, threatening to assassinate me.“The same person called again the following day, Friday February 3, 2017 at about 9.00 p.m. with the same threat of assassination. I became more conscious after the last call because he claimed that his gang was closely monitoring my movement.”
According to him, he had dismissed the threat as a ploy by some unknown criminal elements, however, “the recent criminal incident which took place at the head office of FGPL in Lagos, informed the decision to formally alert the police about a premeditated attack by some known forces.”
Aremu recalled the incident which took place in early morning of Wednesday, January 11, 2017, when one of the former top officials of the company “in company of armed gunmen invaded and disrupted operations at its Ikeja, Lagos headquarters, before holding management staff and customers hostage.”
