China launched an experiment satellite,
"TK-1", on Friday from the northwestern Jiuquan Satellite Launch
Center.
The satellite, carried by the KT-2 rocket,
blasted off from the launch center at 7:53 am local time, and it later
accurately entered its intended orbit.
The "TK-1" is the first satellite
independently developed by the China Aerospace Science & Industry Corp.
(CASIC) and will be used for remote sensing, telecommunications and experiments
in minisatellite-based technologies.
The successful launch has shown that CASIC
has the capacity to independently develop and manufacture all kinds of typical
space crafts and platforms, laying a solid technological foundation for China’s
commercial space program.
The KT-2 rocket is one of the five carrier
systems in the CASIC commercial space plan. It features high carrying
efficiency and adaptability, according to the CASIC.
